Spaces & boards

Create a space to organise dashboards for a team, service or investigation. Start with a private copy when learning the controls: board titles, layouts, card order and structural changes save as you edit.

Create a private example space

  1. In Dashboards, open the ellipsis beside the space name.
  2. Select + in the Spaces menu.
  3. Enter a title, such as Widget examples, and an optional description.
  4. In Initialize Space, choose Empty Space to start from scratch, or choose an existing space to copy its boards and cards. All Cards provides the built-in examples.
  5. Choose User access for a private space.
  6. Select Add Space. The new space opens with its own independent boards.
Create a private space from All Cards
Initialize Space copies the configuration. User access keeps the new space private.

Copying a space copies its configuration, not a frozen dataset. Its widgets query the currently selected node and time range.

Choose the sharing scope

Access Intended use
User A private workspace for the current user
Org Boards shared within the organisation; editing requires template-administration permission
Global Centrally managed spaces; available only to appropriately privileged administrators

The access selection is fixed after a space is created. To make a different-scope version, create another space and initialise it from the existing one. Do not delete the original merely to change the scope of a copy.

Organisation-wide dashboard editing uses the templates:administrate permission. Ask your administrator for the appropriate role when Org creation or editing is unavailable. Viewing a shared space does not necessarily grant editing access. The All Cards library is read-only; copy it before customising.

Select the space-name button to edit its title and description. This dialog has an explicit Save button. Space and board titles allow 24 characters; descriptions allow 230.

Space settings and its existing access scope
An existing space's access options are disabled. Save applies changes to its title and description.

Add or organise boards

  1. Open a space you can edit.
  2. Use + beside the board tabs to add a board.
  3. Open Board at the bottom right.
  4. Enter the board title and a description that states what its metrics include.
  5. Arrange board tabs by dragging their handles. The keyboard controls also support picking up a tab with Space, moving it with the arrow keys, and dropping it with Space.

The Board drawer saves valid edits automatically. Closing it does not undo changes. A Saving… indicator appears while changes are being saved; incomplete required fields must be corrected.

Board configuration drawer
The Board drawer controls the board description, panels, layouts and cards.

Filter a board's event population

  1. Open Board in a space you can edit. The visual filter bar appears above the cards.
  2. Select Add Filter To Search and search for an attribute, such as Step Name.
  3. Select the attribute and complete its condition using the available operator and value controls.
  4. Review the resulting condition and the affected cards. Board-filter edits save automatically.
  5. Close the Board drawer. An existing filter remains visible but cannot be edited until you reopen the drawer.
Attribute picker for the board-level visual filter
Add Filter To Search opens an attribute picker. This capture shows the choices before a condition is applied.

The shared Top X family, Aggregate Stats and Signal Trigger Rate receive the board filter. A card's own conditions still matter: for example, a login-only card can become empty when the board selects checkout events. Check both levels when comparing results. For Signal Trigger Rate, also read the denominator guidance in Analyse signal trigger rates.

Specialised cards can use their own predefined queries. Do not assume that every card on a mixed board uses the visual filter. Validate the metric's scope before comparing it with a filtered shared widget, and include the intended population in the board description.

Add and configure a card

  1. In Board, expand the intended panel or panel tab.
  2. Select Add Card.
  3. Choose a widget. The menu groups configurable analyses, presets, journey views, scores and signals, locations, and specialised cards.
  4. Configure the widget using its settings control. Top X variants open their settings when added.
  5. Use Update Preview to inspect a configurable card's pending settings. Select Save to apply them, or Cancel to discard the pending settings.
  6. Adjust the card's position in the panel's card list. New cards are inserted at the beginning of the selected list.
Add Card menu
Choose the calculation that answers your question. Several menu entries use the same configurable Top X engine.

Use the copy control on supported cards to make a variation, then change its title and conditions. Give each variation an explicit title: Distinct accounts per device is more useful than Top X 2.
